Amy was born in Italy but grew up in Colorado. She moved around a lot as a child as her dad was in the army. Her dream was to be a professional ballerina and she trained in dance, but soon realised that ballet was tougher than she thought. Instead she headed into musical theatre and realised that acting was what she really wanted to do.
After a time performing in dinner theatres in Minnesota, Amy headed for LA in 1999 and landed her first major role that same year in the black comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous. Stephen Spielberg gave her a big break playing Leo DiCaprio’s love interest in Catch Me If You Can, but it wasn’t until she starred in cult indie hit Junebug in 2005 that she really hit the big time.
Amy was nominated for an Oscar for her Junebug performance and has collected two more Oscar nominations since, for Doubt in 2008 and for The Fighter in 2010. She also starred in the critically acclaimed Disney hit Enchanted in 2006. Now one of Hollywood’s more respected young actresses, Amy’s since moved into producing movies and is set to star as Lois Lane in the forthcoming Superman reboot as well as singing with Kermit in the new Muppets movie too.
Amy is engaged to her long-term boyfriend, actor and artist Darren Le Gallo. The couple began dating in 2001 when they met in acting class and Amy gave birth to their daughter Aviana Olea in May 2010.
