Canada was targeted in a recent terrorist shooting in the National War Memorial in the capital, Ottawa, where a ceremonial guard, Corporal Nathan Cirillo, was shot dead at point blank with multiple bullets in his stomach by a new convert to Islam, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau. He was allegedly on the terrorist watch-list as a high risk person because it was feared that he wished to join the Islamic State militants in Syria.
He then tried to rush towards the Parliament but was shot by Sergeant-at-Arms, Kevin Vickers, and died of his wounds. The Prime Minister has strongly condemned this attack. Even the shooter’s mother has expressed her condolences for the victim saying that she cries for him not her own son.
